About DINI

The development of modern information and communication technologies requires a change in the information infrastructures of higher education institutions and other research institutions. This change is a major topic within higher education in Germany and more than ever requires agreements, cooperation, recommendations, and standards.

The German Initiative for Network Information (DINI) was founded to coordinate and support the management of these changes. DINI is committed to improving the information and communication services in higher education institutions and learned societies, and the necessary information infrastructures regionally and nationally.

Agreements and the distribution of tasks among the infrastructure facilities can significantly extend the range of services. Additionally, the joint development of standards and recommendations is a requirement.

DINI is an initiative of four organizations:

  • AMH (Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Medienzentren an Hochschulen e. V.)
Consortium of German University Media Centers
  • dbv (Deutscher Bibliotheksverband e. V., Sektion 4: Wissenschaftliche Universalbibliotheken)
German Library Association, Section 4: Academic Universal Libraries
  • ZKI (Zentren für Kommunikation und Informationsverarbeitung in Lehre und Forschung e. V.)
Association of German University Computing Centers
  • Wissenschaftseinrichtungen und -organisationen
    Research institutions and research organizations

Each of the four delegates two representatives to the executive board. Executive board members and four additional representatives from each of the four partner organizations make up the steering committee. The partner organizations elect the board members for two year terms.
