Die Santa Fe Konvention der Open Archive Initiative -
ein technischer und organisatorischer Rahmen für verteilte elektronische Publikationen

Let us define an e-print as a non-tollgated electronic version of a research document, the full-text of which can be retrieved on the Internet. There are formal and informal ways to provide access to eprints. I will set out this distinction at the start of the talk.

The Open Archive Initiative in an initiative by the main groups involved in formal provision of non-tollgated research documents on the Internet. They include the arXiv.org, RePEc, and NCSTRL initiatives. These are introduced in Section 2.

The basis business model that underlies the OAi comes from RePEc. It is introduced in Section 3 of the talk.

At a meeting of eprint initiatives in Santa Fe in September 1999, the Santa Fe Convention was set out. This convention is introduced in Section 4 of the talk.

The technical implementation of the Santa Fe convention uses a sub-set of the Dienst protocol as used by the NCSTRL initiative. I will discuss this feature in Section 5.
